I will cover the pros and cons:
Pros:
Staff are exceptionally friendly and very helpful.
Food is absolutely delicious in the marine restaurant.
Pool bar has perfect views of the beach and surrounding mountains with great facilities, including a bar and food made to order.
Room service available (I didn't use it but the menu was very good).
Reception offers to store luggage securely after checkout and also allow you to continue using all the facilities, the kind man at receptionist actually said "you are still our guest" which I thought was a nice thing to say.
Cons:
I requested a room that faced the beach well in advance, I was given a room on the other side which had terrible views. My curtains remained closed for my entire stay. I was disappointed by this, as one of the main reasons I chose to pay £300+ extra, was to stay in this area and be on seafront. That made my decision pointless. I asked if I could be moved rooms, but was told it was not possible. I was given a voucher for 2 complimentary drinks, which were restricted to soft drinks or a Caipirinha. I have to admit, I was disappointed by this, despite how nice the hotel and staff were. My recommendation is to make absolutely sure you get a room at the front of the hotel, if you'd like to wake up to the beautiful seafront.
Hallways are small and quite noisy. I had a number of children playing in the corridor at around 7.30am in the morning. Lifts can also create some background noise, but nothing too bad.
Overall, I would still recommend this hotel for it's lovely staff, location and facilities - particularly the rooftop pool bar and the restaurant.

WOW Hotel ! A bit too expensive for what offers but is the localtion and the service that makes a huge difference. Oh and of course the pool, clean with nice music and perfect host Sr Antonio !

The only reason I stayed in this hotel was location. I usually stay in Copacabana. But this time I really wanted to stay in Ipanema.
Overall this hotel was not that bad but I wouldn’t stay again for the price I payed. I don’t know it is always expensive. But it was definitely not worth the price.
The room was very noisy, cramped, very outdated, old and bad condition air conditioning super noisy, impossible to sleep with it.
The rooftop is tiny, maybe for 8 people maximum… the pool is just deep enough to wash your feet.
the breakfast was included, and it was okay.
The hotel doesn’t even offer a bottle of water in the room.
Everything is under minibar price.
500ml water was R9,90.
Staffs were two groups of people. Kind helpful and rudely cold.
Only good thing about this hotel is location (center of Ipanema beach) and they surprisingly don’t charge you for the beach towels and beach chairs and parasol.
