Peniarth Arms was a good find for a weekend near West Wales coast. Cost was around the going rate. Staff friendly & v helpful. Cleanliness good- shower head needed TLC, but everything you need. Evening meals excellent, didn’t need breakfast. Not a posh hotel, but a homely pub with en-suite rooms. Both evenings really busy, so obviously a very popular venue with locals & holiday makers alike.

I don't normally struggle to find faults, but this has me stumped, but give me time I may be able to find something minor. I find it 100%

Room was spacious with 4 poster bed. but the shower was a little weak and disappointing. Breakfast was great with vegetarian options, and staff very welcoming and helpful.

It all looks good on arrival. There is a nice sense of style and the location of Bryn Crug is lovely. The views if you are the back of the pub eg Room 1 or Room 3 are lovely. If you are physically able and you enjoy pub stays you will enjoy it here. In my case I was visiting family so if it had gone well would not only have returned often myself would have recommened to many other people. When you have a reallylong journey what you want most is to have a good shower. Unfortunately the shower tray was cleaned but the hair trap was full, there was soap scum on both the inside and the outside of the shower glass (no attempt ever made on cleaning the glass floor level to sink height next to the sink.) Theshower head had grotty mould on it. I couldn't find the energy to clean it myself that night so at breakfast I asked them to clean it. I pointed out the hair trap would cause flooding if not dealt with. Got back later that day hair trap inner was clean but when pulled out had grot under it still and still full of water. The shower head was still dirty (black mould grot on every hole in the shower head) and the shower glass outer still had someone elses tooth paste and spills on the outside. I took photos and videos of the dirt which easily wiped away. No cleaning products or cloths provided under the sink - tbh I would have just done it myself if they were. The room design is impractical and the headboard unfinished with bits of dowel sticking up. There were an insane number of cushions on the bed (adding to fire hazard and risks of poor hygiene as I very much doubt all these covers get washed each time) the heating is electric and had avelvet chair and footstool in front of it which made it impractical to hang a wet coat (its Wales! A hook on back of door essential) the rooms are totally inaccessible for anyone with stamina, breathing or mobility issues as up flight of fire safety stairs. The bed is kingsize but the room is a double at most. There are only inches between the The fake flowers are insanely tall so that the spindly decorative wood pieces distract from the TV which itself is positioned above a mirror. The breakfast was generous and looked good but the tomatoes and mushrooms tasted sour like the oil had been reused. As you arrive from the car park you have to walk pastthe open door to trough type urinals and the loos to check in at the bar. No one is pleased to see you. you won't be offered any help withyour bag despite the number of stairs. And when you get to your room there is no wardrobe or place to put your bag in room 2 because of the ludicrously large bed. Under the bed are bits of bed too so no room under there either and its actually a deep matress on a low bed so there is not much clearance to do that even if a suitcase. I met the owner's partner (did't say a name that was the intro) who asked me where I was from and then Basil Fawlty style on hearing I had a long journey there to visit my eldest told me I should have stayed there and got them to visit me! I had mentioned politely about the cleaning issue expected them to address it and it not to be an issue as I knew they had short notice of me coming. But they could have either given me another room (as I left all the other room doors were open so I know only my room shower was dirty the others were spotless. I tried to ring reception before I left as the doors to enter the bar were closed. I had wanted to checkout more formally and see if any addition to the bill for the breakfast or if it was included and let them know the shower was still dirty. I had to leave before 9am and they were not open and no one answered the phone. I wouldhave bought my family dinner in the pub on my last evening but the rudeness and the terrible cleaning standards made me feel really uncomfortable being there. I stripped the bed and left. I don't think I will ever go back. I hope this improves things for other guests because my experience was of a lov
