If you don't speak Dutch, then don't waste your time on this place. The emails I received after booking through the Agoda website said my reservation was confirmed, that I was all set and didn't need to submit any more information, and that I would receive my check in instructions at 3pm on check in day. Then on check in day, I receive another email saying that I needed to fill out some form, but it also said that the link to the form had been “masked” by Agoda for my online safety. Great – so to keep me “safe”, I have no access to the form. Exactly how was I supposed to fill out this form? Naturally, I email the hotel using Agoda’s website, and don’t receive a reply until after 9pm on checkin day. Realize that this “hotel” has no reception staff. You arrive at a locked door and you have no access code to let you in, which means no way of dropping off your luggage. So back to the train station, where we can store our luggage (for 12 euros per day) while we try to sort this out. Fortunately we find an extremely helpful transit worker who calls the hotel, as calls from our U.S. phone always failed. The first time he calls, and asks for instructions in English, the call goes directly to voice mail. The next time he calls, and asks for instructions in Dutch, someone answers the call, and after giving them our information, we finally get our room number and PIN. We walk back to the hotel, head up the 17 steps of the steep winding stairway, and enter our room. It was exactly as described – a nice bed, bathroom with shower, a kitchen with refrigerator and what appears to be some type of convection oven, and plates, cups and utensils in the cabinet, as well as a table and two chairs. There is no door to the bathroom, and the space between the toilet and sink is small, so when you use the toilet, expect your butt to be sticking out into the hallway when you stand up to use the toilet paper! There are two windows in the room that overlook what appears to be the roof tops of smaller buildings, but there’s standing water on these roof tops, so that mosquitoes come in when the windows are open. And there is no instruction book for any of the devices in the room, which means good luck trying to figure out how to operate the TV and remote or the oven. We’re not even sure if there is an air conditioner in the room. There’s a long vertical glass object in the kitchen area which looks like it might control the room temperature, and there’s a couple of wall mounted devices outside of the bathroom area which look to control room fans and temperature, but again without instructions, we were not able to figure out how to make our room cooler than the 25 degrees Celsius displayed on the thermostat. As if things aren’t going that well for us, in the three nights that we were there, not once did we receive a fresh set of towels, or a reply to our email requests asking for clean towels. But did I mention that the refrigerator kept our liquids nice and cold? If you’re thinking about renting a room here and you don’t speak Dutch, spend a few euros more and move on to a place where you can store your luggage if you arrive early, and where you can actually communicate with the hotel staff in person rather than sending email requests to a “hotel” that never replies.
