Norfolk House Hotel

I stay in hotels 2 or 3 days a week for business reasons, and usually opt for chains (Travelodge and Premier Inn), but due to the convenient location of this hotel (and only needing an overnight stay) decided to take a punt on a non-chain. The hotel was very easy to find on the main road into Maidenhead, and had ample free parking right outside the door. I was greeted warmly at reception and escorted to my room (you don't get that with Travelodge for sure!). The lady who checked me in offered advice on local restaurants, but as I know the area and was meeting colleagues in the town for a meal I declined her assistance. Maidenhead centre is just a short walk away along the well-lit road (pavement all the way), and there is a fuel station a few minutes walk away with an Asda Express store. My room was small, but who needs a large room for an overnight stay? The bed was comfortable (not soft, to my great relief), the bathroom was clean with hot water and a decent shower, and there were the usual tea and coffee-making facilities and a TV with freeview. As it's an older hotel, the windows were single-glazed sash, which did result in some road noise, but also meant I could open them fully to enjoy fresh air on a relatively warm night). The only blight on my stay was absolutely no fault of the hotel, but the resident of the neighbouring room who snored continuously and loudly throughout the night, and which unfortunately ruined what would otherwise have been a great night's sleep. I'll be sure to take earplugs in future, and hope that man seeks medical assistance! I'd personally be too embarrassed to stay at hotels for the sake of other guests if I had a night-time habit like that. I will absolutely return to Norfolk House though, based on my one-night experience (albeit with ear protection). Whilst the chains are handy, and offer consistency, having a homely stay and warm welcome is nice too.
