I recently stayed at this boutique hotel in Fontainebleau, attracted by its proximity to my school & the main attractions and its quieter location on a less busy street. The front desk staff I interacted with were generally friendly and helpful, which I appreciated. However, my overall experience was disappointing due to several significant issues with the hotel itself. First and foremost, the hotel is quite old and appears to be poorly maintained. Upon arrival on an exceptionally hot summer day, I was assigned a room without air conditioning—or even a fan. The room was unbearably hot throughout the day, making it extremely uncomfortable. I was genuinely surprised that a hotel charging €140–€200 per night would not provide basic climate control, especially during a heatwave. Unfortunately, there was no mention of the lack of air conditioning or fans on the hotel’s website, the Agoda booking page, or in my confirmation email. Had I known about these conditions, I would not have booked this room (which, incidentally, was the last one available). After several complaints, the front desk staff informed me that a cancellation had occurred, and I could move to an air-conditioned room the next day as a complimentary upgrade. I appreciated this gesture and agreed to switch rooms. However, after packing up and carrying my heavy suitcase down three flights of stairs (the hotel has no elevator), and moving from a side building to the main building outside in the heat, I was told that the owner now wanted to charge an additional €50 for the air-conditioned room—despite the earlier promise of a free upgrade. I found this change in policy quite frustrating, especially considering the initial lack of transparency about room amenities. To make matters worse, I was warned that the toilet seat in the new room was broken and could not be repaired during my stay. Despite assurances that it would be fixed, no one addressed the issue throughout my visit. While the staff (excluding the owner) remained courteous and tried to be accommodating, the overall experience was marred by poor communication, inadequate amenities, and maintenance issues. At checkout, the staff apologized for the inconvenience regarding the broken toilet, but there was no gesture of goodwill beyond limiting the extra charge for the air-conditioned room to one night. I will need to verify the final charges once I return home. In summary, I would not recommend this hotel, especially during the summer months. There is no elevator, many rooms lack air conditioning or even fans, and maintenance issues are not promptly addressed. Additionally, both Agoda.com and the hotel’s own website failed to accurately describe the room conditions, which could mislead future guests. Clearer communication about amenities is essential to set appropriate expectations
