Hellaby Hall Hotel has some positives depending on your stay. The location was convenient, the hotel was extremely clean (five stars for that), and the café area with outdoor seating is pleasant in summer. The spa, which we didn’t use, is generally a highlight.
As frequent travellers across the UK, Europe and beyond, we found the rooms below expectations for the price. Our Executive Room was almost identical to a standard room, with only slightly more space and less mismatched furniture. There was no air conditioning or fridge, and the pillows and duvet were worn and thin, which impacted our sleep — my husband and I both woke with stiff necks. The overall décor and atmosphere gave the hotel a somewhat nursing-home feel rather than a comfortable or relaxing environment.
Bar and restaurant areas lack atmosphere, and service could be improved; many staff are young and need more training. In the bar, the noise of bottles and glasses being slammed was distracting. Breakfast was okay, with good quality sausages, bacon, and ample choice, but the service was abrupt. The staff member offered no greeting and rushed with coffee orders, insisting extra for a black Americano, despite it being essentially just black coffee.
Overall, the hotel may suit guests focused on the spa or outdoor summer areas, but for comfort, food, and restful overnight stays, it does not offer good value for money.
