Posted this 3 years ago but it was deleted. Came here to give another review because my stance remains the same—disappointing experience once again—they just changed the name of their hotel, LOL. Gave a disappointing and not so positive feedback at the reception upstairs, as there wasn’t clarity to our booking and we were charged extra (if you read the old review, we experienced something similar 3 years ago) to which we were met with passive aggressiveness and attitude problems. Went down for dinner at the restaurant, and was seated by a staff member, the manager and another employee came over. When the manager was asked a question he responded with a curt and dismissive attitude; you can clearly see it’s a running theme with the employees working here. Then he asked if we were seated by an employee or if we just came in and sat by ourselves….? Not surprised at this point, if the manager treats certain coloured guest this way, it’s only natural for the employees to follow suit! :) However, before we could answer him, the employee beside him answered for us “No!”, as if she was the one that seated us 🤭 (silly goofy attitude coming from her unfortunately) As you can tell, it hasn’t been long since we checked in, and so far, it still hasn’t been a good experience. “Day 1 of our stay at Selfness Hotel Eiger: Initially, before our trip, Selfness Eiger Hotel had assured and promised our family that they would arrange for a staff to pick us up from Grindelwald train station upon our arrival. However, they failed to do so and did not make the effort to correct their error. As a result, we were greeted with drizzling rain, a cold slippery pavement and a 15 minute hike up the hill to the hotel. We reached the hotel only upon climbing a second hill - to discover that the front door was under maintenance and we had to wait in the rain at the hotel’s crowded back door entrance. At reception, we informed the staff about the no-show pick up. However, the staff was rude and merely offered faux sympathy and a measly apology before moving on to check us in to a dirty, dim and noisy room right in front of the elevator which they had insisted we pay another 20 franc as that was the room we had “supposedly” booked through Agoda. Furthermore, despite being a well-reviewed 4 star hotel, they did not have the time nor service standard to adequately address customer needs. We wanted to put in a request for a room with more beds as we were a family of 5 with 2 queen sized beds, but they were unable and unwilling to even hear of the request due to the overcrowded lobby. Also, there were no bedroom slippers provided nor the expected toiletries of a 4 star hotel. Only a 3 in 1 shampoo, conditioner and body wash was provided. Additionally, a staff working at the breakfast buffet approached us the next morning whilst we were eating and informed Martina the manager that we were a family of 5, to which Martina responded, “Tell them I would like to speak to them once they are done”, as if we were students awaiting punishment from a teacher. When we went to reception, we had addressed the above mentioned issue to which we were met with a curt reply of, “Well, this is a 4 star hotel”. Ironically, a 4 star hotel charging a 5 star price but with the attitude of a motel. In the end, we had to suck it up and will be enduring another 2 nights here; the booking is non-refundable. Which defeats the purpose for an expensive and supposedly enjoyable family holiday in Switzerland. For those looking to enjoy a peaceful holiday, book your stay with Hotel Schweizerhof Grindelwald, which is a 3 minute walk from Grindelwald train station with better service and more flexibility based off our experience at their Hotel Schweizerhof Lucerne.”

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel in Grindelwald! The location couldn’t be better – it’s just a short walk from the train station, making it super convenient for travelers. From the moment we arrived, the staff impressed us with their warmth, patience, and genuine hospitality. They were always ready to help and made sure we felt welcome throughout our stay. The hotel’s facilities and environment were excellent — everything was clean, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices to start the day right. Our favorite part was the breathtaking view from the room. The moment we opened the curtains, we could see the magnificent snow-capped mountains. In the evening, we even caught a glimpse of the golden sunlight shining on the peaks — a magical and unforgettable sight. This stay made our trip truly memorable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Grindelwald — it’s a perfect blend of comfort, scenery, and heartfelt service!

The hotel is old style, not level of 4 stars, too dark, food smell everywhere. No AC, rooms are too hot. No privacy in balcony, exposed to gym, did not like that. Staff are nice, but wouldn’t come back.
