We had a great stay at Barras Hotel. The staff was kind and helpful, rooms were confortable and clean. Breakfast was varied and plentiful! I recommend it!

Amazing staff that speaks English well. The breakfast buffet is pretty amazing and they have a rooftop pool. Location works really good for me. I was pretty surprised that the room had a large sliding glass door you could open for fresh air. That seems pretty rare for a hotel these days.

While the hotel is in a ‘safer’ neighbourhood, it’s pretty out of the way of everything - nowhere near beaches, sights or even shopping - and despite the room being very spacious, the only bin in the room was located in the bathroom, which was obviously required for toilet paper (this seems to be a Brazilian specialty - why they can’t place a cheap basket in the room for rubbish is a mystery).
The included buffet breakfast I looks amazing and extensive, but not much for vegetarians or vegans - basically fruit and black tea or coffee.
It’s a nice hotel, but a little old and rundown - the silver bin in the bathroom was coated in rust, there’s no fan in the bathroom (another Brazilian specialty), the lifts pretty creaky and the stairwell run down.
Overall, if you don’t mind staying out of town (there are buses aplenty if you can navigate the system), and you’re able to communicate in Portuguese or with a translator app, this place is pretty good value for money.
